Box Subwoofer PB12-Plus Series
Not quite sure where
your sub's parts come from? How about a small
factory in rural Ohio? The new PB12-Plus
is another example of a component set we're quite proud
to highlight in detail. If a sub's brain is the
amplifier, then the heart must be the woofer. The
fourth generation Plus woofer (which we call the Plus
12.4) again runs counter to virtually every trend in the
industry: It's made by us, it's made by hand in
our Ohio factory, and we released it when we were good
and ready, knowing full well that its predecessor was
already unmatched in this price class. It rivals its
more expensive Ultra brother, taking the Plus legacy and
upping the ante in every performance aspect a bit more.
But a world-class woofer
is only part of the picture. Using other high
performance parts like our new proprietary 3" port flare
assemblies and a protective front grill that's just
plain cool, buying something else just got harder.
Wonder why most audio brands don't bother to show off
the parts in their subwoofers?
SVS "Plus 12.4" subwoofer driver:
The legend continues with the heart of any sub
When you start out to better a design as
good as the third generation SVS Plus woofer, you have
your hands full. Rivaling drivers from the most
expensive boutique brands in the world it's compact,
impeccably assembled by hand in our own factory and
sports durability and innovations even the vaunted Plus
drivers of old never managed. Our top designers
spent a solid year of developmental work and
experimentation with emerging materials and design, all
put through a gauntlet of extreme testing in our R/D
labs.
Check out touches like the one piece
surround/gasket, sewn cone seams and aerospace adhesives
(well, that's a bit tough to see, but trust us, it's
there) much of which was lifted right off the Ultra
line's unmatched 13.5" wonder woofer. And again, rather
than sub-contract this bread-and-butter component, all
the custom design and assembly was done in-house, where
production is done in small batches for quality.
Innovative assembly techniques no one else uses means we
can do that, yet still keep up with demand from markets
spanning the globe today. In a day when whole product
lines, whole brands, are routinely sent to lowest cost
bidders overseas, your Plus woofer bucks the trend,
again.

Amplifier
Yet
another high output full-featured digital switching amp
born our of the
partnership
between SVS and Indigo Manufacturing, one of the
most capable and largest original equipment
manufacturers in the world. Built in Canada to exacting
standards seldom seen in this price class, its rugged,
clean layout and construction serves as a perfect
complement to SVS Powered Boxes. Again, untold man-hours
were expended dialing in performance that perfectly
matches the new PB12-Plus 12.4 woofer and its enclosure.
As always, we even made sure our own logo graced this
amp as a reminder that no other subwoofer manufacturer
has it. And since you can only get one on your
SVS, you won't see them floating around the various "do
it yourself" e-tailers either. Isn't it nice to know
your amp was made just for your sub?
Don't let the conservative real-world
power rating deceive you. Given our latest US-made
drivers and the exceptionally efficient SVS box designs,
the SVS PB12-Plus can embarrass other subwoofers touting
many thousands of watts.

More on BASH
BASH® is a proven class of
amplification, answering the market needs for efficiency
without compromising sound quality. BASH® is a patented
"High Efficiency Linear Amplifier" circuit topology that
has taken the best of Class D and Class AB and created a
new Class of its own. By combining a fast response power
converter with a linear amplifier, BASH® is able to
maintain both class AB sonic performance and class D
efficiency.
BASH® can produce high power levels
without cost penalties typically associated with
conventi onal
amplifier designs. A linear amplifier rated at 100 Watts
should be able to deliver 20 Watts continuously. If the
same amplifier is to play musical transients that are
10dB louder than its rated power, the amplifier must be
able to deliver 1000 watts dynamically. To deliver such
dynamic power would require the internal power supply
rails to be 300% higher, and the resulting power
dissipated at 20 watts output to be 350% higher
resulting in increases to heat sinks, power transformer,
bulk capacitors, output devices and ultimately increases
the cost.
BASH® provides customers new solutions,
opens new markets, offers greater flexibility, and
ultimately reduces the cost of amplification.
Front firing port/woofer baffle
orientation
The
shockwaves emanating from that high efficiency woofer
propagate in perfect synch with our team's tuned ports.
When you're in the midst of your favorite action movie
scene you might wonder if such a stylish, modern looking
enclosure can can really move your home theater (without
moving around itself). Fortunately for SVS customers,
all the drama will be on screen, and all around you in
gut pounding, accurate bass. Your subwoofer will
serenely be belting it out at all the right moments.
Rock solid. Utterly unflappable. Once again, form
follows function at SVS.
Want another example of thinking
different? How about something simple, like an
acoustical alignment that takes advantage of a whopping
1.5" front baffle and stout internal braces all cut with
computer controlled precision. Building cabinets
this way makes for a supremely solid and stable
enclosure. Its low center of gravity and an
well-protected woofer mean years of rock-solid
performance.
So maybe you have a hard floor and it's
time to setup your sub? You won't find hard plastic feet
that might vibrate on your SV Subwoofer. Instead the
default mounting configuration is a set of compliant
synthetic rubber cone feet, precision threaded into
steel inserts, all removable of course. Because our subs
have such a low center of gravity the same setup works
just as well on thickly padded and carpeted floors or
tile, wood or stone, without missing a beat.
Proprietary 3" high flow inner and
outer port flaring
Previous
generations of SVS subs used effective but rather more
common plastic fittings which required
surface
mounted screws and finicky foam seals. No longer. This
generation of Powered Box and Cylinder subwoofers
utilize costly proprietary injection molded port flares
which look better, neatly integrating with the
surrounding baffle with screwless seals which allow even
more compact alignment than before. Computer-designed
and made exclusively for SVS, these high-flow, low-noise
ports are matched internally with American made flares
which complement the free-flowing 3" internal diameter
high-temp ABS vent tubing. Again, we don't just put
audio eye-candy where customers can marvel over their
elegant fit and finish. But rather, inside too where few
will ever see. Form is always dictated by function at
SVS. Whether you ever see it or not, we just can't hold
back content when performance is at stake. Call us
detail oriented" if you wish. These are quality touches
you can hear, and feel.
Variable tuning design with new
sealed mode
Multiple ways to
configure your extension (how deep a sub goes) means you
can experiment with "lower than low" bass at your
leisure, and in seconds. In stock mode the
new PB12-Plus is set to 20Hz (with all
three ports firing), which will yield strong
response to under 15Hz in mid-sized rooms and corner
placement. Above this point is where
99%
of all music and movie bass is centered. It also
is the most efficient mode for the PB12-Plus,
with amazing sound pressure level capacity, and
incredible accuracy to the source material at all sound
pressure levels, low or loud. Higher output 25hz
mode is still there for max output for head-bangers in
the audience. But if you want deeper? Then insert one of
the included computer cut foam plugs, click over the
subsonic filter knob to the corresponding 15Hz mode, and
you are there, pushing spine-tingling subsonic bass to
10hz if not below. This is the sort of bass
that is just plain scary when done with low distortion
and authoritative half-kilowatt power reserves.
And with the new PB12-Plus there's the
first use of a true sealed mode too, for optimal roll
off characteristics which many bass purists demand. SVS
builds right-priced world-class subs to serve many
masters. You.
Hand-finished hybrid veneer and
low gloss polymer accents
Thousands of hours go into optimizing the materials,
finish, bracing, and layout of every SVS, box or
cylinder.
Using state of the art computer assisted design (CAD)
and our relentless regimen of simulations and extensive
real-world measurements, no other manufacturer makes a
more robust and acoustically inert enclosure than
SVS. Using a 1" medium density fiberboard (MDF)
core (1.5" on the front baffle) with extremely high
grade clear real wood veneers, and rounded edges, our
new PB12-Plus panels are meticulously machined
with procedures reserved for the best high end
cabinetry. Hand assembled, and finished with
a multi-step process that's an SVS secret. With
one of two stunning wood finishes, or always alluring
piano gloss black, this is as much fine furniture for
your home theater or music room as it is a subwoofer!
Colors to fit nearly any decor
Most companies give you few,
if any choices on colors for your subwoofers. With
the PB12-Plus we give you four stunningly beautiful
natural wood finishes done on clear hardwood, plus
immaculate "piano gloss" or fine textured black.
Select yours at the time of purchase and we'll have
one on the way quickly. Digital monitors and
imagery can vary. Contact us for finish samples.
Response Curve

* Smoothed, quasi-anechoic
frequency response: Measured with high resolution
instrumentation via "ground plane" technique, outdoors,
at two meters' distance, a minimum of 70 feet from
reflective boundaries. 20 and 16Hz response indicated.
Note: Tuned for mid-sized rooms.
In-room extension, with corner placement, will typically
yield 3-5Hz greater linear extension than shown.
Results will vary based on room size, seat distance from
your SVS sub, and subwoofer location in the room.
Chart does not depict maximum output of this model and
is not directly comparable to other SVS models except
for frequency response.
