Now with the stunningly powerful new
STA-800D DSP amp. Improving on last year's Sound and
Vision Mag's Editor's Choice from 2010 was a daunting
task but with more power and more features than ever
before consider it done.
After all, we take our
responsibility as the world's top performing audio brand
rather seriously.
The latest PB12-Plus is a
revolutionary leap forward thanks to nearly 300 watts
more power than older amps provided, and fine tuning
only powerful Analog Devices™ digital signal processors
could achieve. New frequency
response charts tell the tale here.
Borrowing liberally from its
phenomenally successful big brother, the PB13-Ultra,
we've kept the latest features in this PB12-Plus, like
proprietary free-breathing port flares, and added
digital parametric EQ, and even variable pro-grade XLR
inputs.
No surprise it rivals the
previous generation PB13-Ultra in performance too.
Of course that line gets its own new Sledge STA-1000D
amp to maintain its edge in our big Powered Box lineup.
So even before you switch it on the PB12-Plus is
clearly something different. Tap into depth,
low-distortion power, and naturally flat bass response
that upholds the SVS legend. With
our
fifth-generation "Plus" woofer and and that cutting-edge
Sledge™ amp you are served an unprecedented combination
of performance all still at a rational price.

|
With low gloss, high quality "seamless"
polymer laminate is hand-laid over large radius corners that
neatly integrate with our signature wood and gloss finishes.
Finish with our astoundingly simple and attractive magnetic
grill and you have a sub that's like nothing else on the market.
Available in 4 alluring furniture-grade finishes, the
new
PB12-Plus
will fit into nearly any decor. Computer designed and
exclusively built to our exacting specifications, hand
assembled only by SVS and of course tested in our factories too.
It's still as much art as audio speaker. Big is beatiful at
SVS.
Not quite
sure where your sub's parts come from or what's in there at all?
The latest PC12-Plus
is another example of a component set we're quite proud to
highlight in detail. Starting with the woofer. If a sub's
brain is the amplifier, then the heart must be the woofer.
The new fifth generation super-low distortion Plus woofer (which
we call the Plus 12.5) again runs counter to virtually every
trend in the industry: It's designed solely by us, it's
made by hand, supervised strictly by SVS; and it's so costly no
one but us could land it on your door so afford ably. We
released this Plus driver when we were good and ready, knowing
full well that its predecessor was already unmatched in this
price class. It rivals its more expensive Ultra brother, taking
the Plus legacy and upping the ante in every performance aspect
a bit more.
But a world-class woofer is only
part of the picture. Using other high performance parts
like our new proprietary 3" port flare assemblies, expensive and
breathtakingly powerful Sledge™ amp, and an elegant protective
top grill, buying something this good, for such an affordable
prices is virtually impossible.
Wonder why most audio brands
don't bother to show off the parts in their subwoofers?

SVS "Plus 12.5"
subwoofer driver: The legend continues with the heart
the PB12-Plus

|
Rivaling drivers
from the most expensive boutique brands in the
world it's compact, impeccably assembled with
incredible care, and imparts durability and
innovations even the vaunted Plus drivers of old
never managed. Our top designers spent a
year of developmental work and experimentation
with emerging materials and design, all put
through a gauntlet of extreme testing in SVS R/D
labs. We don't like your sub to ever break.
This latest is the lowest distortion driver of
its type.
Check out
touches like the one piece surround/gasket, sewn
cone seams and aerospace adhesives (well, that's
a bit tough to see, but trust us, it's there)
much of which was lifted right off the Ultra
line's unmatched 13.5" wonder woofer. All the
custom design is done by SVS, and production is
precision hand-built done in small batches for
quality. Innovative assembly techniques no one
else uses from start to end.
What this
means is SVS can make the world's best woofers
for the money, yet still keep up with demand
from markets spanning the globe. In a day when
whole product lines, whole brands, are routinely
sent out simply to achieve lower costs, rest
assured, your Plus woofer is made
better,
not cheaper.

800 Watt built-In Sledge™
DSP-controlled simplifier
Previous
amplifier platforms have served thousands of SVS
customers for nearly a decade. But time and technology
moves on, and Digital Signal Processing (DSP) has been
all the rage for a few years now. How you
implement
DSP however can vary hugely in the audio industry. We're
certainly not slaves to fashion at SVS, but we've long
been on the hunt for more power, better durability and
finer control of the pre-amp stages on our top amps.
At the same
time, we were always left a bit cold by the feature
navigation of early "DSP" amps. Our own older BASH™ amps
were fairly brimming with features, yet we wanted to add
still more for our customers. Ultimately it was first
our new "SB" small sealed subs which drove us to the
heavy R/D investment into cutting-edge accuracy and
precision only top-tier DSPs can yield. What this much
power and control did to our big vented models shocked
even us.
11 years and counting we're pretty hard to impress, but
call it stunned. This power utterly
transforms
subs already at the top of the industry's
price/performance game.
Long-time SVS
fans will not be surprised to know we didn't follow the
well-worn path offered up by traditional suppliers,
preferring to do something very different; more
powerful, easier to use, and with more fine control than
seen before. Our partner in this joint-venture,
Formosa Audiomate
had already impressed us as builder of our
AS-EQ1 sub EQ.
, Turns out, they are also one of
the premier makers of high-power professional audio
amps. The sort which rarely are seen, much less demanded
by the consumer audio world.
Not only were they unfazed by the
power demands we put to them on power, (in both 800W and
1000 watt platforms), they quickly implemented refined,
one-button feature navigation we had experimented with
previously. Nothing in the consumer amplifier world is
so powerful, yet so easy to use.
You'll
barely crack our slick new
user manual
before you realize that knobs from the old analog days
are indeed 20th century stuff. With nearly 300 watts
more power than prior Plus amps, and sophisticated
features not possible with our old analog platforms,
performance has fairly jumped off the charts. Dive into
high-end stuff like defeatable high pass and low pass
filters, with variable slopes, digital PEQ and ... of
course you'll enjoy old SVS favorites such as variable
tuning with true sealed mode, room gain compensation and
precisely variable phase. Even standby mode is now
coupled with an ultra-low draw "green" power supply
Sledge™ amps
are so
revolutionary they've already gained something of an
urban-myth status. Seen profiled on our amp partner's
website, and seemingly almost
too
high-tech for upstart SVS to have given birth to,
detractors were convinced our Sledge-branded amps
had
to be some previously unknown project we simply adopted
for ourselves. Well
that would have been
convenient to be sure. However, COTS (commercial off the
shelf) is barely something we can spell at SVS. Instead,
some of our top staff have been working side by side
with top-flight circuit board designers, integrating
American Analog Devices DSP and wringing out every last
bit of our LCD's micro-controller memory to ensure it
was literally something never seen before. Heck, these
are amps no one ever asked for, before SVS came along.
We have our own pass codes to the amp factory we're
there so much, the hotel staffs in four countries know
us by name, not only in Ohio, USA. There's a lot of
America in these, and not just those DSP chips.
If you think
somehow SVS might have put more American ingenuity and
world-class, state of the art technology in your theater
or music room, well, you haven't been camping out with
our R/D team for the last two years. Power up a Sledge™
equipped sub like the new
PB12-Plus and you
will know immediately why we made it. Customers around
the world will wonder how they lived without them.
Now shipping.

Front
firing port/woofer baffle orientation
The shock waves
emanating from that high efficiency woofer propagate in
perfect synch with our team's tuned ports. When you're
in the midst of your favorite action movie scene you
might wonder if such a stylish, modern looking enclosure
can can really move your home theater (without moving
around itself). Fortunately for SVS customers, all the
drama will be on screen, and all around you in gut
pounding, accurate bass. Your subwoofer will serenely be
belting it out at all the right moments. Rock solid.
Utterly unflappable. Once again, form follows function
at SVS.
Want another example of
thinking different? How about something simple, like an
acoustical alignment that takes advantage of a whopping
1.5" front baffle and stout internal braces all cut with
computer controlled precision. Building cabinets
this way makes for a supremely solid and stable
enclosure. Its low center of gravity and an
well-protected woofer mean years of rock-solid
performance.
So maybe you have a hard
floor and it's time to setup your sub? You won't find
hard plastic feet that might vibrate on your SV
Subwoofer. Instead the default mounting configuration is
a set of compliant synthetic rubber cone feet, precision
threaded into steel inserts, all removable of course.
Because our subs have such a low center of gravity the
same setup works just as well on thickly padded and
carpeted floors or tile, wood or stone, without missing
a beat.
Proprietary 3" high flow inner and outer port flaring
Previous generations of
SVS subs used effective but rather more common plastic
fittings which required surface mounted screws and
finicky foam seals. No longer. This generation of
Powered Box and Cylinder subwoofers utilize costly
proprietary injection molded port flares which look
better, neatly integrating with the surrounding baffle
with screw less seals which allow even more compact
alignment than before. Computer-designed and made
exclusively for SVS, these high-flow, low-noise ports
are matched internally with American made flares which
complement the free-flowing 3" internal diameter
high-temp ABS vent tubing. Again, we don't just put
audio eye-candy where customers can marvel over their
elegant fit and finish. But rather, inside too where few
will ever see. Form is always dictated by function at
SVS. Whether you ever see it or not, we just can't hold
back content when performance is at stake. Call us
detail oriented" if you wish. These are quality touches
you can hear, and feel.
Variable tuning design with new
sealed mode
Multiple ways to configure your extension (how deep a
sub goes) means you can experiment with "lower than low"
bass at your leisure, and in seconds. In stock
mode the new
PB12-Plus is set
to 20Hz (with all three ports firing), which
will yield strong response to under 15Hz in mid-sized
rooms and corner placement. Above this point is
where 99% of all music and movie bass is centered.
It also is the most efficient mode for the
PB12-Plus,
with amazing sound pressure level capacity, and
incredible accuracy to the source material at all sound
pressure levels, low or loud. But if you want
deeper? Then insert one of the included computer cut
foam plugs, dial the feature controller's subwoofer tune
feature to the corresponding 16Hz mode, and you are
there, pushing spine-tingling subsonic bass to 10hz if
not below. This is the sort of bass that is
just plain scary when done with low distortion and
authoritative half-kilowatt power reserves. And
PB12-Plus
offers a digitally
precise true sealed mode too, for optimal roll off
characteristics which many bass purists demand. SVS
builds right-priced world-class subs to serve many
masters. You.
Hand-finished veneer and low gloss polymer accents
Thousands of hours go
into optimizing the materials, finish, bracing, and
layout of every SVS, box or cylinder. Using state
of the art computer assisted design (CAD) and our
relentless regimen of simulations and extensive
real-world measurements, no other manufacturer makes a
more robust and acoustically inert enclosure than
SVS. Using a 1" medium density fiberboard (MDF)
core (1.5" on the front baffle) with extremely high
grade clear real wood veneers, and rounded edges, our
new PB12-Plus panels are meticulously machined
with procedures reserved for the best high end
cabinetwork. Hand assembled, and finished
with a multi-step process that's an SVS secret.
With one of two stunning wood finishes, or always
alluring piano gloss black, this is as much fine
furniture for your home theater or music room as it is a
subwoofer!
Response Curve
New Sledge DSP amps give SVS
engineers unprecedented levels of control over the
brutally powerful amps built exclusively to our specs.
Tuned using painstakingly CEA 2010
test methods, this is the flattest response yet achieved
with our large vented subs. SVS's variable tune mode is
set via our single know intelligent feature controller.
New PB12-Plus DSP frequency
response specs:
-
20 Hz mode 20-150 Hz +/- 3 dB
-
16 Hz mode 16-150
Hz +/- 3 dB
-
Sealed mode 30-150 Hz +/- 3 dB

* Smoothed,
quasi-anechoic frequency response: Measured with
high resolution instrumentation via "ground plane"
technique, outdoors, at two meters' distance, a minimum
of 70 feet from reflective boundaries.

Note:
Tuned for large to mid-sized rooms. In-room extension
will typically yield 3-5Hz greater linear extension than
shown. Your results will vary based on room
volume, seat distance from your SVS sub, and
subwoofer location in the room. Chart does
not
depict maximum output of this model and not directly
comparable to other SVS models except for frequency
response.
