Bigger, much
heavier, and using a more powerful Digital Signal
Processor (DSP) amp than the new SB12NSD, the insanely
good SB13Plus is styled to perfectly match with either
the S-Series or M-Series SVS Speakers. With more
features and more amp power than we've ever offered
before, it's almost certainly another industry standard.
The SB13Plus features audiophile 2nd order tuning, with
power that will run flat and strong below 20hz in most
rooms, with power and refinement which set new standards
in this mid-sized sealed sub class. Nothing
compares really, certainly not at anything like this
still reasonable price.

Brimming with state of the art features, and
designed with the latest DSP controls, our new STA-1000D SledgeTM
amps provide access to all features via a simple to use LCD
display. The amp's slick intelligent feature control knob
and extensive I/O jacks are neatly integrated into a whopping
1000 watt power stage. Of course we include pro-quality
XLR connections, it's virtually a new class of amp, and one that
simply didn't exist until we developed it with our fabrication
partner.
The hand-made SVS Plus 13 is an all new
design using the basket from the famous SVS Ultra 13" subs,
using a US voice-coil, precision built ferrite motor, with one
piece black glass/pulp top cone.
Why step up to the SB13Plus from it's
smaller, less expensive "SB" brother? Well one look below
at what's arguably the most powerful and most advanced new class
of DSP-controlled, pro-grade power sub ever built ... and
basically twice the power across the board over the already
incredibly good SB12NSD. Of course, it's considerably more
expensive, in fact, about twice, but only a bit larger. So
if you have the need for power and the means to step up, you
would be hard pressed to find a way to spend your money more
wisely.
Make no mistake, you still want the big
vented SVS subs for the biggest rooms. "Space eats bass"
and even SVS doesn't defy the laws of physics. But we do
bend the rules like no OEM when it comes to price, quality,
design and performance (all backed up by our typically over the
top" customer service). Expect anything similar in size
and price to wither under any comparison to the SB13Plus.
In fact in most moderately sized rooms this small, stout, high
tech sub will provide better and more balanced performance
than one of our famously large PC or PB subs.

Quality touches abound. Start with just
the front of this new sub. The stylish new powder-coated
perforated mesh is made exclusively for us to insanely high fit
and finish tolerances. Neo magnets, neoprene isolation
gaskets, cast and chromed SVS badge. Flip over the sub and
look at the bottom to find our soft rubber cone threaded
inserts.
Woofers are retained by precision USA
high-strength steel nuts. looks, quality, performance are
evident in every part of this sub. It's no accident.
At SVS we consistently use the best, NOT the
least expensive suppliers when designing and building a new
model.
Be it the swanky grill, or the incredibly new
amp technology, they are all results of 3 years of tireless work
with the top audio suppliers around the world, this is the
quality you can hear, feel, see. Pick up that SB13Plus
grill, examine it closely, and you'll see those baffle gaskets
to ensure quiet, resonance-free operation, even at high sound
pressure levels. Precision metal work like we demonstrate
is rare in today's audio industry. No less than eight
rather robust magnets are thoughtfully covered with custom black
rubber cups so they all look like, well, nothing at all.
Nearly as invisible as the matching neo pieces under the skin of
our signature contrasting hand-laid charcoal black subwoofer
central enclosure.
All this hardware is precisely hand built by
SVS into this very compact mid-sized cabinet design tailor made
for stacking. With an approx. 17" cube form-factor and
real wood or hand-polished gloss accent panels, this is the
nuanced deep bass small sub few brands can match at twice the
price.

Generously
borrowing parts and technology from our Ultra sub, the
look and feel of the SB13Plus will give pause to anyone
poised to spend thousands of dollars more on some other
brand. Those expensive boutique subs have always
been outclassed by SVS performance, but always before
with "big boy" proportions. No longer.
Right now,
under direction of our US staff, cabinets, woofers, and
cutting edge new amps are converging SVS's newly created
Taiwan free trade zone (FTZ) assembly facility.
The first 10 pilot woofers were assembled in July at
Tymphany, you might know them as the home of
world-famous Vifa and Peerless brand tweeters and
woofers. The most storied brands in audio trust
Tymphany to assemble their designs and SVSound
is something of an unusual client, bringing our own
famously "no hold barred" approach to the mainstream
audio market, not behaving much differently than we did
as the upstarts over 11 years ago. With the most
talented and deep design and assembly staff I've
encountered in the audio world, SVS is likewise proud to
provide them with some of the most challenging projects
they've encountered. Woofers that draw gasps from
veteran sample team assemblers among them.

The latest SVS Plus woofers use loads of Ultra
woofer-derived woofer power, including the
custom cast basket. SVS woofers are only
made by or exclusively for SVS under our
engineers' supervision and QC.

Now with state of the art audio DSP,
fine tuning from our engineers have blunted the impact
of physics ... this new small subwoofer is so
flat, so deep and so powerful you might even question
why bigger subs exist. Big subs exist for the largest
spaces of course, but for more modestly sized rooms,in
the USA and around the world, SVS power and performance
wasn't an option. Even for those that will put
our biggest subs in the smallest spaces, they can be
wholly overrun with "room gain" which takes the lowest
octaves of bass, and can blow them right thru your roof.
DSP controlled power finely tuned by our staff using
tough "CEA 2010" test standards have created something
genuinely special in the world of small subs.
That “something special” is an
unprecedented level of control and interaction which
matches a sub's size to your space better than ever
before.

While woofer production heats up at
Tymphany, another SVS team is in place in Taipei, Taiwan
to monitor production of our new STA-1000D Sledge™ amps.
If you follow technology you know that many of the
world’s most advanced electronics still emanate from
here. BASH platforms had already been poised
to shift production to China and not to factories under
our control.
Our famously over-built cabinets are
The cabinets are built to our “brick house” standards
with internal bracing, and for the first time American
Cherry, and Black Oak veneers, joining stalwarts Natural
Oak and Gloss Black. First production samples
weathered stormy shows in Malaysia, Singapore, Taipei,
Europe and USA this summer, where refinements and fixes
took place. Main production started in early
September with first USA shipping to customers here
mid-December.

While
earlier BASH platforms served SVS customers of our big
vented subs well over the years, durability lagged that
of our virtually bullet-proof woofers. And our new “SB”
line of sealed subs simply begged for an entirely new
level of sophistication on pre-amp controls, limiters,
filters and control features. Our partner on the
kilowatt STA-1000D was chosen first as
maker of our already legendary AS-EQ1
subwoofer EQ, the world’s most sophisticated bass
equalizer still today. In fact, they are actually
far better known for providing pro-amps in hugely
powerful platforms which rarely trickle down to the
consumer world. Not only that, working closely
with Formosa-Audiomate we created what
we believe to be the easiest to use and intuitive
feature-set ever done for premium subwoofers.
With a few minutes and with one knob
you know why we call it the Intelligent Feature
Controller™ or “IFC” for short. In both 1000 watt and
800 watt versions (the latter coming soon to the more
efficient PC12-Plus and PB12-Plus subs) these amps
simply didn't exist before we created them. Others are
sure to emulate now, the hazards of being a technology
leader. Just don't expect anyone to pack this kind of
technology into a package you can actually afford.
Here's a list of the menu structure

Why a small sealed sub?
Millions of small rooms just like yours. The new SVS
SB13-Plus represents a more intelligent way to make ultra deep
bass:
If you have a big open
room (and there are no shortage of homes with all-purpose “great
rooms” in the US) then one of our more traditional ported box
(PB) or cylinder (PC) subs are still the most appropriate
choices. Not only are they marvelously efficient, they
provide gobs of deep, low distortion, high power bass, with
impeccable quality and style. So if you have lots of
space, get a lot of subwoofer – and now with our Sledge™ DSP
amps, the big vented cylinders and box subs are decidedly better
than ever.
But if you have a small to mid-size room
(like millions of us), the “right sized” SB13-Plus is a perfect
choice, simply because there’s less space to fill and also
because rooms this size naturally boost the low-end bass
response (a phenomenon known as “room gain”). To take
advantage of this room gain, we designed the frequency response
of the SB13-Plus for a very shallow roll-off profile. So
when placed in a small to mid-size room, SB13-Plus will couple
with the available room gain and will typically exhibit a flat
response to 10 Hz. This is the type of subterranean bass
which cannot be heard, but it can be felt as a presence in the
room and it lends foundation and solidity to the sound track.
Below is
a graph of the SB13-Plus "quasi-anechoic" (purple trace) vs.
"in-room" (green trace) in a 2000 ft^3 theater room. Note
how the in-room response is notably flat to 10 Hz with room gain
typical of such a space:
